12 September 2007 - UK Hydrographic Office Admiralty Consultancy Service (UKHO ACS) has secured the prestigious consultancy contract with the Military Survey Department of the United Arab Emirates for the planning, management and oversight of the hydrographic survey of their entire territorial waters.
The UKHO ACS has been chosen by the United Arab Emirates’ Military Survey Department (MSD) to oversee the surveying of around 31,000 square kilometres of seabed. Working in conjunction with the MSD, the UKHO ACS will define the requirements and management of all contractual arrangements with the survey programme.
The project will be led by UKHO Consultant Robert Wilson, the previous Hydrographer of Oman.
David Lye, Director of the UKHO Surveying Division, said: “We have, for over two years, been negotiating this arrangement with UAE and this presents a significant achievement for the UKHO and ACS team – we are thrilled with this news.”
He added that the UKHO Seabed Data Centre will play a crucial part in the contract through the
appraisal of hydrographic survey data.
