Berlin, Germany and Denver, Colo., 3 November 2009 - South Pacific Science Press International Pty Ltd, the publishers of ASM Newsletter, have entered into an agreement to sell ASM to Vector1 Media, publishers of V1 Magazine, V1 Newsletter, V1 Energy, and the editorial services of V1 Research. This new arrangement will be effective 1 January 2010.
Vector1 Media was started by two prominent geospatial journalists. Jeff Thurston of Berlin, Germany was formerly editor of GeoInformatics and GeoConnexion magazines, both with distribution primarily in Europe. Matt Ball was formerly editor of GeoWorld magazine with primary distribution in North America. The two bring a broad experience with geospatial tools, applications and practitioners.
Jon Fairall and Wendy Chapman started ASM Newsletter in 2003. Fairall has been an editor in the geospatial industry since 1991 when he and Wendy Chapman founded South Pacific Science Press. ASM followed a number of successful publications for the spatial industry in Australia; GIS User, Spatial Business, Measure and Map and Position Magazine.
ASM will maintain its current format and uniquely Asian-focussed content. Fairall intends to continue to contribute to ASM and lend his expertise to Vector1 Media and V1 Research, to expand the international perspective and provide content coverage on Asia.
"We are excited about this opportunity to work with Jon toward developing a truly international combination of editorial content in the surveying, mapping and geospatial infrastructure areas," said Jeff Thurston. "At the same time, V1 Research will also now benefit from an Asian voice. "
