ACA to Perform Florida Runway Expansion Mapping

ORLANDO, FLORIDA, 12 July 2010 -- Aerial Cartographics of America (ACA) will perform mapping in support of a major runway expansion project at the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. ACA will provide all digital mapping products required to complete expansion of Runway 9R/27L at the airport.

ACA will provide new airport mapping products including color ortho-imagery, an updated Airport Layout Plan (ALP) & Obstruction Survey, and planimetric updates for the airport and surrounding areas. In addition, ACA will perform low-altitude helicopter LAMP mapping of critical road connectors and an overall FAA-GIS Standards data conversion.

These products will be used in support of expansion of the 8,000-foot air carrier runway on the south side of the airport, as well as modifications to roads and bridges in the area. The complex airport project will span an active federal highway and railroad. A runway tunnel and taxiway bridge will require large amounts of fill.

ACA, a pioneer of advanced mapping solutions for over 36 years has successfully completed aviation mapping projects meeting FAA Advisory
Circulars 16A surveying, 17B imagery acquisition, and 18B GIS Data Collection Standards for a majority of the airports in Florida.

The advanced photogrammetric approaches include fixed wing imagery acquisition with ACA's UCX Large Format Digital Mapping Camera and Low Altitude Mapping Photography (LAMP) imagery acquisition by helicopter. These products provide survey grade mapping accuracies on runways, tarmacs, roads and developed areas keeping engineers and surveyors out of harm's way in busy airport environments.

The benefits of these advanced technical approaches enable airports to maintain their ongoing airport traffic operations while supporting design data is collected.
