A year ago, ITC’s Integrated Land and Water Information System (ILWIS) successfully migrated to the open source scene with ILWIS 3.4 Open. Since then it has enjoyed increasing use in the open source community. We registered 20,000 hits in one year! An increasingly active community has just brought out a new release – ILWIS 3.5 Open. This release provides a more flexible, easy to install, powerful, PC-based GIS and Remote Sensing software package.
ILWIS 3.5 Open
The new modular software package ILWIS 3.5. Open provides enhanced functionality, a plug in architecture for ILWIS extensions, as well as web enablement. It has also been upgraded to a modern development environment.
The new features include:
• ILWIS as an OGC compliant WMS client: visualization of WMS layers (or combinations thereof) as raster maps.
• Calculation tool for Surface Energy Balances (SEBS).
• ILWIS as an MS Visual 2008 project.
• Easy extension of analytical functions (so-called applications and applications UIs) based on a plug-in system.
• Improved possibilities/capabilities for writing server side applications: separation of the user interface and analytical functionality.
SOS passes OGC compliancy test
The Sensor Observation Service release 52N-SOS-3.0.0 successfully passed the OGC CITE testing and is now fully compliant with the new OGC SOS implementation specification (version 1.0.0).
SPS is OGC compliant
The Sensor Planning Service is a reference implementation of the OGC Sensor Planning Service specification (version 1.0.0) and has successfully passed the compliancy testing during the OGC CITE testing. The modular plug-in architecture allows easy integration of new sensor types. The newest release (52N-swe-sps-1.0.0) provides an exemplary plug-in for an Axis network camera.
OX-Framework supports new OGC Web Service types
The current OX-F release has been adapted to provide additional client support for the following OGC web service types:
• SOS (and the affiliated O&M spec) - OGC approved version 1.0.0
• SPS - OGC approved version 1.0.0
• SAS - the latest RFC version
• CSW – OGC approved version 2.0.2 together with ebRIM 3.0
• WCS - OGC approved versions 1.1.1
The entire OX-Framework is also available as a preconfigured eclipse project.
New WPS release candidates
The new Web Processing Service release candidate implements the current OGC WPS 1.0.0. The WPS uDig client and the WPS Jump client plug-ins have also been enhanced. Additional changes since the last version include:
• XML-based configuration
• KML support
• new website, including online javaDoc
• various bugfixes
