3rd issue of Earth from Space magazine online

The third issue of the “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions” magazine is dedicated to the application of space data in solution of nature protection tasks and to the possibilities and practical application of web-technologies Soft copy of the third issue of the “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions” magazine is available on the Internet. The issue is dedicated to the application of space data in solution of nature protection tasks and to the possibilities and practical application of web-technologies.

— What links modern geo web-technologies to nature protection? Institutes of civil society require a toolkit of their own enabling to adequately and thoroughly assess and comment the events and undertakings, happening in Russia and outside, — says ScanEx RDC General Director Vladimir Gershenzon. — Web 2.0, UGC, Wikipedia, crowd sourcing — these are the new approaches to a dialog with increasing number of Internet users, drawing the attention of more and more interested people to the discussion about changes in the environment.

You will learn about the use of API web-services to get access to geodata, about the progress in Russian protected natural areas monitoring project based on RS data, about the contemporary possibilities of national services of satellite-based monitoring of oil pollutions of water areas, about the application of space images for the purpose of forest certification and interim results of the river transfer monitoring in the transborder Dauria. In addition, issues related to the application of “Triaterra” spatial objects data management innovation system were highlighted. In the Legal Relationship section legal experts analyze modern problems of the Russian legislation, prospects of creating an association of the RS suppliers and users, RF Civil Code rules, restraining the distribution of the intellectual activity results in Russia, including spatial information.

— In the modern world the value of information is often rated depending on its “freshness” criteria (time elapsed from the image acquisition). Nowadays the complete work cycle “order-imagery-reception-processing-delivery” is reduced from months to days and even hours, - explains ScanEx Deputy General Director Alexei Kucheiko.

A bonus section of the third issue is ScanEx RDC: 20 years. It unveils some facts in the 20-year long history of ScanEx. Friends and partners of ScanEx speak about joint projects and development trends of the remote sensing in Russia. Only abstracts of their interviews are published in the magazine, with their full versions available on the web-site of ScanEx in Releases section, where the soft copy of the third issues of the “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions: magazine is available too.
