The workshop
The 3D-world is depicted in various geo-platforms like on Google Earth™, Microsoft Virtual Earth™ and ESRI ArcGlobe™. It is expected that by 2015, numerous cities, countries-landscapes, and our world in general will offer 3D models for multiple purposes; The "Islands" have a unique position in the 3D virtual world. The 3D-Islands workshop promotes & addresses the state of art in webGIS technologies & virtual geographics for the production of 3D models tailored to the endeavours of the islands. Such endeavours can be for example tourism, real estate, administration, businesses exposure, and policy. Workshop key-note speakers will introduce attendees in European Commission funded projects, island-applicable SDI/GIS technologies, photography technologies for street & scenic views to be engaged, POIs collection & compilation technologies, DTM/DEM & production of 3D flying-over island models, databases & INSPIRE standardization technologies, pilot projects & real life commercial business oriented projects, policy issues, economics & sustainability of projects, and demonstration show-cases from the Mediterranean islands of Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta and Spain.
