3D Laser Mapping Supplies Ultra Long Range Scanner

3D Laser Mapping Supplies Ultra Long Range Scanner

3D Laser Mapping has supplied an ultra long-range laser scanner to Mining Surveys (UK). Designed to capture millimetre accurate 3D mapping at very high speeds with a staggering range of capture of over one mile the Riegl scanner is one of the first systems sold worldwide. Mining Surveys, a specialist surveying company who primarily work within the Heavy Civil Engineering, Mining and Waste industries, are planning to utilise the innovative laser measurement system to expand their operations into new markets and applications.

John Halifax, Principle Director of Mining Surveys (UK) commented, “The Riegl LMS-Z620 supplied by 3D Laser Mapping will enable us to expand our operations into new areas while still maintaining the high levels of service and performance our clients have come to expect. In trials earlier this year, where we used to the scanner to survey landfill sites, we were able to significantly reduce the time spent on site and survey previously inaccessible and therefore un-surveyed areas.”

The LMS-Z620 can capture up to 11,000 individual point measurements per second. Operating at ranges of up to 2,000 metres and achieving repeatable readings to an accuracy of 10 millimetres it offers unbeatable performance in the field. The system, which also includes specialist operating and processing software together with an integrated high-resolution digital camera, was specifically designed for long-range topography and mining operations yet can be applied to monitoring, civil engineering, archaeological and architectural projects.

“We believe the LMS-Z620 will revolutionise the laser scanning market opening up a wide range of potential applications,” said Dr Graham Hunter, Managing Director of 3D Laser Mapping. “It’s unparalleled performance delivers significant operational efficiencies combined with ease of use and safety of operation in the field.”

Mining Surveys (UK) is a Chesterfield based specialist survey company with over thirty years experience in the mining, heavy civil engineering and construction industries. An impressive client base that includes the East Midlands Development Agency, Freedom Group, Scottish Coal, UK Coal Mining and Transport Scotland has seen the company complete a wide range of surveying projects, such as volumetric analysis of one of Europe’s most contaminated sites, non contact surveying of live electrical installations and monitoring of slope instability especially in areas prone to landslides.

3D Laser Mapping is a specialist in laser scanning solutions, the Riegl Premier Distributor for the UK, Ireland and sub-Saharan Africa and the leading distributor of TerraScan software. 3D Laser Mapping integrates laser scanner hardware systems with their own software and peripherals to create robust solutions for sectors such as mapping, mining and manufacturing.
