1Spatial awarded ISO9001: 2008 accreditation

Cambridge UK, 3rd February 2009

Following an ongoing programme of quality management and 4 days of intensive auditing 1Spatial has successfully upgraded its ISO9001 accreditation to comply with the 2008 specification and TickIT version 5.5.

1Spatial has been ISO9001 accredited since 1994. The company achieved accreditation against the 2000 standard in January 2001. More recent developments in the company that fall within the scope of the registration include the use of Agile software development techniques in conjunction with the Rational Unified Process. These processes are incorporated within the company’s Project Management Office (PMO) controls. The PMO function has recently been strengthened as a result of the company’s involvement in large projects for the Scottish Government and the extensive Phoenix project for Ordnance Survey Great Britain.

Jo Shannon, 1Spatial’s Phoenix Project Manager said:

“ The ISO process is very important to the company. Our ongoing improvement and continuous registration is something that I am particularly proud of. Our processes have been subject to assessment by our customers and we are happy to show any of our customers or potential customers the methods we deploy to deliver to their requirements. We have benefited greatly from the interaction with our partners and customers and have developed robust techniques for estimating development timescales against requirements. By the next surveillance visit, I am looking forward to being able to demonstrate our approach to proactive monitoring of risks during any project lifecycle.”

Dr Mike Sanderson, 1Spatial CEO added:

“ Our ISO approach is not based on a paper chase. It is about deploying pertinent information rapidly into all parts of the company. The relationship with our third party accreditation body, LRQA supports this. The audit therefore is a fundamental part of the improvement process. It is not a fault finding activity and this is why I think we have been so successful in maintaining our accreditation over the years.”
