1Spatial Conference industry speakers announced

1Spatial is delighted to announce the first wave of confirmed speakers who will be participating in their 2008 Conference: ‘1 Source of Truth’, being held from 29th April to 1st May at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Stansted Airport, UK.

Keynote speakers already confirmed for the conference include Antti Jakobsson and Dave Lovell from EuroGeographics, who will be talking about Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs), and Iain Greenway, CEO of Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland, who will be continuing the SDI topic from the perspective of a region that has already implemented an SDI through the GeoHub NI project.

Les Hawker from Transport for London will be discussing some of the challenges they are facing in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, and Paul Watson from 1Spatial will be talking about the current Ordnance Survey of Great Britain project, which will deliver an integrated map revision and production process next year. Brian Higgs from Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council will be examining the DNF in action and Tyler Mitchell, Executive Director of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation, will be addressing the growing role of Open Source Software in geospatial systems.

During the conference there will be a number of different ‘tracks’ operating, with representatives from different market sectors involved. In the Utilities track, Michelle Kiernan from MidCoast Water in Australia will be discussing how spatial data quality improvements can help achieve better ROI, and Geoff Morton from Oracle will be examining the asset management lifecycle and the benefits of geospatial data integration.

Geoff Zeiss, Chief Technical Officer for Autodesk, will be presenting in the 3D track on the topic of CAD/GIS convergence and in the same track, Gregory Reinecke, Director of LSI, will be discussing 3D Topology modelling.

In the other tracks, namely the public sector and data supply, speakers will include Geoff Smith and Dan Morton from the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, and Dan Paull from PSMA Australia respectively. Geoff Smith and Dan Morton will be talking about the integration of national cartography and Earth Observation data, while Dan Paull continues the data integration theme, but on a bigger scale – integration of data across Australia. Geoff Howard from Land Information New Zealand will also be presenting in the Data Suppliers track on the subject of the NZTopo50 Topographic Map Publication project.

With sponsors including Oracle, Autodesk, Infotech, Blue Marble Geographics, eSpatial Informatica, HP and Salford GIS, the 1Spatial Conference is set to deliver a comprehensive learning package for everyone working with spatial data, from expert Practitioners, through to Programmers and Chief Executive Officers. Focussed discussions, presentations and workshops will help you to use your spatial data more effectively and efficiently; our comprehensive agenda will also include topics around integrating spatial data and building Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI).

Registration for the 1Spatial Conference 2008 is NOW OPEN with the reduced early bird registration rate only available on bookings made on or before 1st March. To find out more and register, please visit http://www.1spatial.com/conference or contact the conference team on conference@1spatial.com

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
