1Spatial Announce Acquisitions

1Spatial Announces Acquisitions in Ireland and Scotland

1Spatial is delighted to announce the acquisition of Proteus Solutions Limited and IME UK Limited on the 6th July 2007 to form 1Spatial Ireland and 1Spatial Scotland.

As part of the acquisition Seamus Gilroy, Managing Director of Proteus will become Managing Director of 1Spatial Ireland and Alan Douglas, Managing Director of IME will take on the role of Managing Director for 1Spatial Scotland.

The three companies have successfully worked together over a number of years, particularly on the Property Registration Authority of Ireland. 1Spatial believes that the merging of expertise will ensure that as organisations look to make more use from their spatial databases, share data and build common frameworks and spatial data infrastructures (SDI), 1Spatial will posses the skills necessary to manage repurpose and distribute spatial data.

Joining forces strengthens all three parties ability to deliver spatial data infrastructures and data quality products throughout the UK, Ireland and beyond, as well as firmly establishing 1Spatial’s presence in both Ireland and Scotland to complement existing offices in Cambridge, England and Kongsberg, Norway.

Alan Douglas, Managing Director, IME, commented:

"We are thrilled to have joined such a dynamic group of companies. As a direct result, our customers will benefit from enjoying a broader range of high quality proven solutions whilst continuing to receive the same level of professional support from our local team."

Séamus Gilroy, Managing Director, Proteus Solutions, stated:

"Working with 1Spatial on the project for the Property Registration Authority of Ireland gave us the opportunity to see at first hand the wealth of technology and expertise in the company. As 1Spatial Ireland we are looking forward to bringing these resources, together with our extensive application development experience, to existing Proteus and 1Spatial customers and to new customers throughout the island."

Mike Sanderson, CEO, 1Spatial, added:

"We have worked with Proteus and IME on the Property Registration Authority of Ireland project and collectively received the 2006 AGI award for Innovation & Best Practice (Private Sector). The team developed a close working relationship and it was a natural step to take these skills forward to participate strategically in SDI projects particularly across the EU. I am delighted that we can announce this strengthening of our operations in Scotland and Ireland."

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

How valuable are our efforts on SDIs if we don’t actively address the human issues? Think about all the government regulations, technical implementation plans, internal processes and procedures, data sharing networks and so on. These are arguably meaningless if there is no buy-in or understanding from the people who must deliver against them.

During the 1Spatial Conference 2008 where there was a large number of presentations on a wide range of important industry topics ranging from data quality, data integration and data maintenance to open source and INSPIRE. But there were very few presentations that focused on the human aspects of our business.… More…
