Satellite Enabled Maritime Monitoring Methods

The section “Satellite Methods of Maritime Monitoring” will be held on December 2, 2009 in the framework of The 4th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions”.

The primary topics of the section are as follows:

• Environmental condition of offshore zones and port areas, offshore oil and gas production and transportation regions;
• Assessment of ice condition;
• Timely detection of vessel and production platform locations;
• Prevention of illegal fishing and detection of vessels involved in oil pollution.

The section “Satellite Methods of Maritime Monitoring” will be attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Transportation, the Ministry of Natural Resources, RAS Shirshov Institute of Oceanology, Tranzas Group of Companies, State Department “Arctic and Antarctic Scientific Research Institute”, Central Scientific Research and Experimental Design Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics, MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA, Canada) and Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT, Norway), etc.

The 4th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions” will take place on December 1-3, 2009 in Moscow Region “Vatutinki” recreation center of the Russian President Administration. The conference being arranged by ScanEx RDC and Transparent World NGO every other year is the largest event in the area of space data applications in Russia and CIS countries. In 2007 it was attended by over 330 representatives from 32 countries.

The primary topics of the 2009 Conference are: Use of space information technologies in region management under economic recession; nature protection; Internet-services and geoportals development trends; science, education and business integration for sustainable development. Admission to the Conference requires filling in the registration form (see link below).

The 2009 Conference is a special event as this year ScanEx Company celebrates its 20th anniversary. Therefore it is marked with master classes of satellite imagery operators, exhibition of achievements in the area of Earth remote sensing, product and service user conference, technical tour around the company office, free training courses on space imagery processing, etc.

A section dedicated to this event was opened on the Internet-Forum of ScanEx RDC where anybody can pose questions to the organizers of the Conference, share opinions and personal views of the upcoming event.
