1 February. The Royal Geographical Society, 1 Kensington Gore, London, SW7 2AR
UAV NAV SymposiumThe Royal Institute of Navigation is pleased to announce its first symposium on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This important symposium has already attracted much interest from the UK and abroad, right across the UAV community, including manufacturers, academics and user organisations.
The invited speakers will be covering a number of navigation related topics concerning the design and operation of unmanned and autonomous aerial vehicles, which will interest the complete spectrum of those involved professionally with the topic.
The symposium will incorporate time for detailed formal discussions of the presented topics and the planned breaks, particularly lunch and the evening reception, will give delegates plenty of opportunities to interact at an informal level.
To book your place at the UAV NAV Symposium and for further information, please contact Sally-Anne Cooke, the RIN Conference and Events Manager, at conference@rin.org.uk or on 0207 591 3135.

Water Scarcity Winter School "Analysing, mapping and evaluating spatio-temporal water scarcity problems"
Description: In a set of lectures, group work and practicals the course focus on the climatological, hydrological and socio-economic processes and functions inherent in landscapes across Europe related to water scarcity. Participants are provided with an overview of planning procedures (data acquisition, data preparation, data processing, and result interpretation) and gain skills to apply the theoretical framework. They will learn how to implement an early warning system against water shortage based on existing operational methodologies (e.g. Meteorisk) and to characterize main anthropogenic and natural defined surface water and groundwater systems. Participants will be guided from "simple" discipline oriented approaches to more sophisticated multidisciplinary, holistic methods aiming at an integrated assessment of water management and planning.
Registration starts on September 15, 2010. Applications are accepted until December 15, 2010. Due to limited places we strongly recommend an early registration!

AGI Scotland - Edinburgh Earth Observatory, Seminar SeriesWe are pleased to announce the following event of the Edinburgh Earth Observatory (EEO)/AGI-Scotland Seminar Series in GIS, Remote Sensing and GeoInformatics.
Prof. Chris Brunsdon, Professor of Geographic Information, Department of Geography, University of Leicester, will give a talk entitled: ‘Geographically Weighted Regression: Ideas, Applications and Extensions’.
Prof. Brunsdon’s research interests include analysis of human or societal topics such as crime patterns, house-prices and health-related data as well as areas of physical geography including rainfall, hydrology and luminescence data. Prof. Brunsdon has contributed greatly to the development of Geographically Weighted Regression which he will discuss in this talk.
As usual refreshments in the form of wine, beer and nibbles will be available
