GEOBIA 2008Welcome to the international conference and workshops entitled GEOBIA, 2008 - Pixels, Objects, Intelligence: Geographic Object Based Image Analysis for the 21St Century. GEOBIA 2008 will be held at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada August, 6-7, 2008, with an icebreaker on the evening of August 5, and workshops (by Definiens, ITTVis and Overwatch-VLS) on Aug 5 & 8. The conference program will be based on concurrent oral & poster sessions covering a range of topics from theory and methods to applications. A special session is will be hosted on 'How GEOBIA Can Support Real-World Challenges Faced by Government & Industry'. Invited keynote speakers will further highlight key issues and challenges. GEOBIA, 2008 is co-organized in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency, the ASPRS and the ISPRS. Conference proceedings will be linked with ISPRS Working Group IV/4 to provide literary/scientific standards and online access. A GEOBIA special issue of Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (PE&RS) will be published in 2009.

URISA Fourth Caribbean GIS ConferencePark Ridge, IL - URISA is pleased to announce its Fourth Caribbean GIS Conference, which will take place August 25-29, 2008 at the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman. The conference will be organized through a Call for Presentations to be released within the next month.
The previous three Caribbean GIS Conferences took place in the Bahamas (2006), Barbados (2004) and Jamaica (2001). The chair of the
2008 conference committee is Alan Jones, Director of Lands & Survey for the Cayman Islands. The committee is comprised of well-respected GIS professionals from across the Caribbean region, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
As in the previous gatherings, the conference objectives are:
1. To inform broad cross-section of Caribbean users about GIS technology and applications
2. To share experiences regarding GIS implementation and management issues
3. To establish new relationships with the vendor/consultant community
4. To provide workshops and sessions that are application driven, and are relevant to the Caribbean community of GIS users
5. To foster a Caribbean GIS network

International Disaster and Risk ConferenceConference Motto: “Public-private partnership
– Key for integral risk management and climate change adaptation”.
IDRC Davos 2008 is expected to bring together over 1.300 interested individuals, policy makers, risk managers, scientists and other risk experts from politics, governments, science, the private and civil sector, NGOs, etc. to focus on the array of risks facing society today and on effective strategies to manage and reduce these risks and disasters. The conference will continue the dialogue between the different risk areas and their stakeholders, but also serve as a bridge between science, risk governance, technology perspectives, problem solving and capacity building.
